QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU START
A few things you might be wondering
The Family Reset is designed to be simple, flexible and realistic for busy families. Here are some of the things you might want to know before getting started.
-
The Family Reset is a guided, self-led family workshop for families with pre-teens and teens.
Parents and teens start with their own activities, giving everyone space to think about family life from their point of view. You then come together and use the Family Workbook to guide the conversation and create your own Family Charter with shared values, promises and expectations for how you want family life to work.
-
The Family Reset is designed with pre-teens and teens in mind, roughly ages 11–17.
There’s no perfect age, though. What matters more is that your child is old enough to reflect on family life, share their point of view and take part in a conversation about how you want to live together.
-
They don’t need to be enthusiastic from the start.
The Teen Workbook gives them space to think privately before the family conversation, and the process is designed to give them a genuine say, rather than feeling like another set of rules being handed down by a parent.
A little eye-rolling is absolutely allowed.
-
Allow around 2–3 hours in total, but you don’t need to do it all in one sitting.
The individual activities can be completed separately, and the family activities can be broken into manageable chunks. There’s no need to rush through it just to get it finished.
-
No. You can complete the individual workbooks when it suits each person, then choose a good time to come together. The family activities can also be spread across more than one session if that works better for you.
-
You don’t need to print everything.
You’ll receive separate PDF files so you can print only the parts your family needs. Some activities can also be read from a screen and discussed together, while the optional templates are there if you’d like to use them.
The Parent Guide explains what to prepare before you begin.
-
You probably won’t agree on everything and you don’t need to.
The goal isn’t to get everyone thinking the same way. It’s to understand each other better, find the things that matter to you as a family and agree on enough common ground to move forward together.
Your Family Charter should feel like something your family created together, not a list of rules everyone reluctantly agreed to.
-
You’ll receive an instant digital download containing everything you need to run your Family Reset at home:

-
Yes. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and The Family Reset isn’t built around one particular family structure.
It can be used by solo-parent families, two-parent families, blended families and families with one or several children. Simply use the workbooks that are relevant to the people taking part.
What matters isn’t who makes up your family. It’s creating space for the people in it to be heard and to agree on how you want family life to work together.
